A Message from the CEO

Recycling Today Inspires a Greener Tomorrow

  • Recycling saves natural resources
  • Recycling saves energy
  • Recycling reduces landscape damage
  • Recycling lowers demand for landfill space
  • Recycling produces jobs

Our History

Genesee Scrap has been a leader in metals recycling since the First World War. We understand what long-term commitment means and Rochester remains our home town. We've witnessed the evolution of our city with the development of our world. Over the years, our local experience, combined with global insight, provides us a unique perspective in solving recycling problems.

In 1915, we began with the natural fiber recycling of "rags" and clothing...long before "recycling" was part of our culture and language. As synthetic fibers became more popular, it was time for Genesee Scrap to re-invent ourselves. We evolved into a recycler of steel and metals as the American consumers demanded more and metal recycling filled the need as a new natural resouce.

Today, these same trends continue beyond our borders. Our expanding global economy, demands that we unlock the potential available in all our manufactured products by designing them for recycling. How we recognize the reuse of our natural resources in smarter ways is critical to preserve our quality of life and our planet.

Our Mission

What we do defines who we are. And, who we are defines us as a business. Our recycling business today means addressing our environment responsibly. Understanding all the impacts of how and why we create value in post consumer products. Everyday we strive to execute above and beyond the demands and expectations of our customers to preserve the landscape we live in and be part of the chain of custody that creates new products from the obsolete or discarded past. To do this, we must respect not only the environment but the world we will leave for tomorrow.
